Description:

Dr. Manoj Jain and Dr. Mark W. Muesse will conduct a two-day non-residential meditation retreat on Saturday, 11 March and Sunday, 12 March at The Ashram in Memphis. Drs. Jain and Muesse, who are nationally recognized mindfulness teachers and advocates, bring a unique sensibility to the practice of meditation. Dr. Jain holds an MD from Boston University and specializes in infectious diseases and body-mind research. Dr. Muesse is a Harvard-trained authority in world religion and spirituality. Together they blend the perspectives of a physician and a philosopher to create a distinctive and compelling approach to mindful living.

The Advancing Mindfulness retreat is open to beginners and experienced practitioners alike. The retreat will involve both theoretical and practical components of meditation based on a model developed by Drs. Jain and Muesse through years of practice, research, and teaching. Instruction will include discussion of health and physical well-being, insight and wisdom, personal and social peacefulness, empathy and compassion, and spiritual development. Practice will include sitting, walking, loving kindness, and eating meditation; vinyasa yoga; progressive body awareness practice; mindful conversation; and free time to enjoy the outdoor beauty of the conference center.

The retreat will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 11. Check-in begins at 8:30 AM. The retreat ends at 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 12. The cost includes lunch, snacks, and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. All meals are vegetarian.
